Visa and Immigration
The UK Immigration System
For students entering the UK they must enter through the new ‘Tier 4 Points Based System’ (PBS)
What type of VISA do I need? (Non – EEA Nationals)
This visa category is for students who plan to study in the UK for 6 months or more. Those wishing to study for less than 6 months should apply for a student visitor visa which allows a stay of up to 6 months but does not allow visa extension or work permit.
Students must apply under the Tier 4 general and child student category of the Points Based System. You can apply for student visa extension and you are allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week outside of study hours.
Full information on how to apply to this student visa category can be seen here.
Do I need a VISA? (EEA Nationals)
EEA Nationals do not need a visa to come to the UK.
For prospective students, if you have been provisionally accepted by Finance and Management Business School, we will be able to provide a letter for you to present with your visa application which will show that you have been in touch with an educational institution in the UK.
As soon as you have met all the conditions of your offer then Finance and Management Business School will send you a "Confirmation of Acceptance for studies" letter by post. This will state Finance and Managements' sponsor license number. You will need to present this to the entry clearance officer on application as it will be worth 10 points under the PBS and you must gain the other 10 points by showing that you have sufficient funds to pay for your tuition fees and living costs.
The Tier 4 system will require you to have significant maintenance fees for the duration of your studies. The money you need to show should cover your course fee and your living costs for up to nine months at £800 per month in London areas and £600 per month for any area outside of London.
If your VISA application is successful
Once your visa application has been accepted and successful you will be able to travel to the UK from the ‘valid from’ date. You should also check the visa expiry date and make sure you have been granted enough time to leave the UK. You should double check that you have been given the correct visa and that all your personal details are correct too. Students on a student visa are allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week so do make sure that you have not been prohibited from working in any way.
If your VISA application is refused
If your student visa application is refused you will be informed if you have the right to appeal and the detail of instructions will be provided for you. If you are going to arrive late for your course you should contact Finance and Management Business School to find out if you can join your course at a later date or whether you will need to defer to the next academic start date.
If you are unable to attend your course due to visa refusal, FM Business School will be able to refund any deposit paid in full, on presentation of a copy of the visa refusal letter.
